Extinction, by Jorja Lovett

I can’t resist Evernight Publishing’s anthologies. Especially when they put out a call for yummy Alpha shifters. My story in the anthology is Extinction. Here’s a little snippet…

“You have nothing to be ashamed of.” The look Lucas shot her pinged Holly’s nipples into points against the flimsy fabric of her nightwear.

“You saw me naked?” Regardless of whether his tale was true or not, she hated that there was a possibility he had seen her at her most vulnerable.

“I think that makes us even, don’t you?” He clutched the pillow closer to his groin. She’d have to remember to put the cover in the wash tomorrow.

“So, you’ve seen me in the nip, and I’ve seen you. It’s been fun, but could you please fuck off now? It’s been a long day.” She wanted to crawl back into bed and pretend the past twenty-four hours had never happened.

“I didn’t realize losing my father’s funding would cause you such hardship. I’m sorry I upset you. That wasn’t my intention.” He had seen her tears after all. Bugger. That put her on the back foot.

“What did you think was going to happen? That we would put the flags out and celebrate our independence? As much as I detest saying it, we rely on your contribution to fund the project here.” She had to set her weapon down so she could wipe away some more stupid tears.

“I’m still trying to get over the loss of my father. I guess I was trying to make it easier on myself by cutting a lot of ties to him. Listen, do you have something I can wear? It’s impossible to have a serious conversation when I’m standing here with my balls in my hand.” He peered at her from under lowered lids, sounding strangely vulnerable.

Maybe he wasn’t such a cold hearted bastard after all. She knew she would go completely doolally if anything happened to her parents. That still didn’t make it any more appropriate for him to be stark bollock naked in her bedroom. The sooner he covered up his six-pack and that happy trail of hair dipping from his navel, the quicker she could resume hating him. She grabbed her robe from behind the bedroom door and threw it at him.

“Thanks.” He dropped the pillow to catch it in both hands.

Fuck a duck! Holly tried to avert her eyes, but she could still see his junk swinging about in

her peripheral vision as he dressed. “I think I’ll go put the kettle on.”

Author Bio:

Jorja Lovett is a British author with both Irish and Scottish roots, which makes for a very dry sense of humour. Writing since she was old enough to wield a pen, it wasn’t until she joined her crit group, UCW, that she pursued her passion seriously.

Now, with Joe Manganiello as her permanent muse, if she can leave the pause button on her Magic Mike dvd long enough, she hopes to spend the rest of her days writing steamy romances.

Out in the Cold, by Lucy Felthouse

Thanks so much to Morgan for having me here today to share a little bit of information on my story, Out in the Cold, which appears in the Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology.

When I write stories for anthologies, I’m always aware of making sure I do something different, something outside of the box so, hopefully, it’s more likely to be accepted. I definitely did this with Out in the Cold. I wanted to write something about shifters that was unusual, but of course it still needed to have the alpha element in there—the whole point of the anthology. So I thought about creating an alpha that actually wasn’t an alpha in the traditional sense, one that ended up in that role almost by mistake. And that’s exactly what I did. I don’t want to give too much away about my story, but when Kane and Paul meet, they don’t immediately realise just how much they have in common. But when they do, things quickly become complicated. There’s an external factor that influences their behaviour, but the closer they grow, the less they’re able to stop their baser instincts from taking over.

It was a really fun theme to play with, though the story ended up being longer than I’d first intended. There’s angst and tension galore in this erotic romance tale, so if that’s up your street, hopefully you’ll enjoy Out in the Cold.

Happy Reading,

Lucy x

Blurb for Out in the Cold:

When Kane Wimborne finds an injured man outside his property, he’s stunned and confused. What on Earth happened? Finally managing to get some sense out of the man, Paul Barter, Kane’s confusion grows. He hadn’t even realised there were any other shifters in the area, much less ones that knew about him. It quickly becomes apparent that there’s much more to Paul than meets the eye, and together, the men come up with a plan to keep them both safe. But the plan isn’t without complications.

Completing his stretches, Kane Wimborne grabbed his keys and left the house, locking the door behind him and pocketing the keys. Jogging down the driveway of his large mansion, he paused at a keypad to punch in the code that would open the gates and allow him off the property.

He’d barely gotten through the gates when he saw something that made him stop dead. A human-shaped bundle was lying next to the wall on his left. Instinctively, his hand went to his pocket to check if his phone was there. Yes, he could phone for help if it was needed.

Cautiously, he approached the shape, with many possibilities running through his head. It could be a homeless person or a drunk who had simply been looking for a sheltered place to sleep. It could be someone who was injured. Or he could be about to step onto a crime scene. Conscious of this last point, he called out before getting any closer—he didn’t want to inadvertently mar any evidence, should that last be correct.

“Hey. You all right?” He felt stupid saying the words, because someone lying next to a wall first thing in the morning couldn’t be classified as all right, for whatever reason they were there.

As there was no response, he edged a little closer and was about to shout again when a weird sensation overtook him. A sensation that he hadn’t felt in a very long time—the one that told him another shifter was nearby.

He’d already been on edge, but now he hurriedly looked around him, confident that even in the dull morning light his superior vision would immediately highlight anything out of place. There was nothing. Except for the fellow shifter who was on the ground in front of him, obviously.

It was clear the wall-hugger was a shifter, given that all of Kane’s senses told him there was no one else around. There rarely was at 5:30 in the morning. Now Kane realized what a good thing this was—he didn’t want any witnesses, just in case any random shifting took place. It was entirely possible—it was a natural response to threats, especially if one was injured.

And if he or she wasn’t injured, why in the hell were they here?

No longer bothered about contaminating a crime scene—he wouldn’t be calling the authorities on another of his kind, whoever they were—Kane crouched down beside the prone figure and searched for its neck, then its pulse. He found both, which was a relief, and at the same time he’d ascertained that the “it” was in fact a man. The stubble on the neck and jaw gave it away. It was either that or a bearded lady had absconded from the local circus.

After calling out a couple more times, Kane decided that the softly-softly approach was clearly not going to work. Checking that the two of them were still alone—what he was about to do could easily stir the guy into changing—he grabbed the man’s shoulders and shook him, hard, then slapped his face for good measure.

It took a few seconds, but finally, the man came round. Groaning, his hand came up to his face, where Kane had hit him. Then his other hand moved to the other side. As the guy attempted to sit up, Kane reached out to help him, then gasped.

He should not have slapped his face. All he’d done was add additional pain to an already affected area. A badly abused area, in fact. The other shifter looked like he’d taken a serious beating, or fallen from the top of a very tall tree.

“Christ,” Kane said, still supporting the man’s back, so he didn’t flop back down onto the pavement. “What the hell happened to you?”

Love’s Rescue, By Morgan King

Blurb: One night while attending a party hosted by Jon Liselle, newly appointed second in command of the Human Alliance Party, Jakob hears a song that no one else can. With stealth and cunning Jakob makes his way into the hidden depths of Jon’s home, only to discover a creature being kept captive. She is a mermaid and he is her song mate. Together they must both utilise their shifter powers to escape, but will Nerissa stay with him or will she want to go home once she is free? Jakob wants to claim Nerissa forever but fears rescuing her from one cage only to trap her with his love. Nerissa must choose between complete freedom and going home, or love and the destiny of having a mate.

It all began with a piece of flash fiction, the word was opulent, the word limit two hundred and this flew straight into my head:

The tank was disgustingly opulent. It consumed one wall, floor to ceiling and was decorated with swirling images of shells, coral and sea life all gilded in pearl. The vast array of shimmering colors distracted his eyes momentarily, but nothing could disguise the purpose of the chamber, it was a cage and its captive swam towards the reinforced glass wall, her eyes open wide reciprocating his stare. Her tail swished angrily back and forth, the color of those moving scales so obviously matching the delicate pigment staining the glass barrier.

One word originating from somewhere outside of himself burst through his head “Help!”

He was looking at a mermaid and he could hear her voice as if she had spoken to him.

It resonated right to the depths of his heart.

If you need more of a teaser:

Jakob lifted his torso up and looked down at Nerissa. She was right. “That’s unbelievably sexy,” he said looking at iridescent colors shimmering across her skin, the mounds of her breasts gleaming, her nipples rising up like two hard little pearls polished to perfection. Unable to resist he took one in his mouth and sucked.

“You even taste of a sea breeze, salty and fresh.” Jakob dragged his tongue across her flesh, from breast to navel. “I want to taste all of you.”

Nerissa thrust her hips against him, and Jakob slowly made his way down her body licking her smooth flesh with his rough tongue. He took one of her legs and lifted it over his shoulder. For just a moment he rested his head against her lower belly, as if humbling himself before a shrine.

He wanted to breathe her in so her scent would never leave him. He wanted to drink her taste, so it would forever linger on his palate.

“Please … don’t stop.”

There was no danger of that.

Hopefully you will love Love’s Rescue and be pleased to know it’s going to be the first in a series: Paranormal Rights.

Set in Suffolk Paranormal Rights presents an urban fantasy/alternate reality version of the East of England (think sea, forest, factories, unique fantasy architecture, and historic buildings).

Here there is a fight brewing between the tyrannical, racist and undemocratic human society and the paranormal underclass. The political arena is the ring and the showdown will be the forthcoming election.

Another teaser I couldn’t resist to set the scene:

The palace stretched out to sea, an impressive structure of glass and steel transforming what used to be Southwold pleasure pier. What had oncebeenforthepleasureofthepeoplewas now amonumenttoLiselle’s wealth and atestamentto his class. It seemed every generation could have their own nouveau riche, those with more money than sense to respect the privileged opportunity it presented.

At the front was a casino-like entrance complete with multiple swinging doors leading through to a dark interior momentarily illuminated in different places by flashing lights. Jakob wouldn’t be surprised to see mirrored balls hanging from the ceiling.

The party would all be happening to the front of the building, rather than on the pier itself. For behind the front part of the palace, which was built on solid ground, was Liselle’s private residence supported by a multitude of iron pillars. A wooden walkway marked by iron railings wrapped right the way around. In daylight, with people walking up and down, it might appear much like any other pier, but at night, completely deserted, while the front of the building was all lit up, it appeared ominous.

Most interesting, though, was that down below, in the center of the iron pillars, nestled among the supporting structure, half visible above the sea and then disappearing underneath its surface were what looked like tinted glass walls that it was impossible to see through and not just because of the darkness of the night or the interior. John Liselle’s home contained rooms stretching down into the sea. Places where he could look out without anyone being able to see in.

The Book That Changed My Life, with Stacey Espino

Adan Bateman book sphere

So when I asked Stacey the book that changed her life this is what she had to say:

I’m not sure about changing my life, but there are many books, from many genres, that have touched me. Lullabies for Little Criminals reads almost like non-fiction, the harsh story of a young girl growing up in the worst circumstances but only seeing the positive out of life. The writing is almost poetic and the content heart-breaking.

I love books that are inspirational like The 5 People You Meet In Heaven or The Shack,  Young Adult like The Hunger Games or Going Too Far, as well as erotic romance like Dark Lover or A Hunger Like No Other.

Well that’s just cheating choosing more than one 😉 But I have to say I’m intrigued by the titles you suggest that I haven’t read and agree with you on the ones I have, in particular I’m a big J. R. Ward and Kresley Cole fan.

But wait this is Stacey Espino on my blog – who I’m also also a big fan of – and she has a new release. Tell us more. TELL US MORE!

Cowboys Mine came to me one night and insisted on being written. I had to put my series books on the back burner to finish it. I put the two heroes through hell and back, but I really wanted to showcase the contrast from their lifestyle to the heroine’s. It is essentially a friends to lovers book with an emotional punch. I really fell in love with all the characters.

Eva Ford lives a sheltered life on her small rural farm. At twenty-two, she feels the need to spread her wings and start her own life, planning a trip to the city to show her prized cows. Colton and North McReed from the next ranch over are determined to make sure she stays out of trouble.

Twin brothers, Colton and North, have always loved little Eva. She’s their rock in life, the one pure thing in their otherwise dark existence. Their abusive father ran out on the family years ago and their mother suffers from a serious addiction. They never look at Eva with desire…until they spend a week alone with her in the city.

Everything changes when Eva and the cowboys realize just how deep their love for each other runs. Once their passion is unleashed, it’s impossible to contain. But can their unorthodox relationship last? Will sex ruin the friendship of a lifetime?

A Little Taste…

North was ready to brawl. In fact, he craved it like never before. Pain would be preferable to the ache in his heart. Somewhere along the line he began to see Eva as more than the sweet girl next door. Somewhere along the line he’d fallen in love.

What he didn’t understand was Colton’s sudden disinterest. Their feelings for Eva always mirrored each other’s. Half the time when he’d escape to the Ford house, Colton was already there. They’d come on the trip specifically to keep Eva out of trouble, but instead, his twin was turning a blind eye.

They ate dinner in silence. North watched the sky turn from blue to black, every darkening shade bringing his anxiety to a new level. She still wasn’t back. God knows what that cowboy was doing with little Eva. The thought of his filthy hands on her made his blood boil. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could sit still with his imagination running wild.

He was just about to bolt from his seat when the door to the trailer opened. Cool air flooded the interior and the sound of Eva clearing her throat made every live wire inside him suddenly lose power. He exhaled a nervous breath, glad she was at least home safely.

“Told you I’d be back in one piece,” she said as she hung up her cardigan. “There’s no need to go hunting me down. Seriously.”

She started to climb up into the loft.

“Where’s lover boy?” asked North, no humor in his tone.

“His name is Wade, and he just dropped me off, like a perfect gentleman.”

“That why he had his lips all over you?” asked Colton. His brother was just as unimpressed, even though he’d condoned the behavior.

“Hush you!” Eva slipped under the covers.

“You haven’t eaten,” said North.

“Wade bought me dinner.”

He ground his teeth together, stifling a growl. The sound of that man’s name on Eva’s lips made him see red. If he never heard the name again it would be too soon.

They secured the trailer and turned out the lights before joining Eva in the bed. He tossed his shirt and lay down on his back, staring up at the low ceiling. She was already comfortable, obviously not feeling the volatile energy keeping him awake. He kept as far to his side as possible, the cold wall of the trailer chilling his arm. Every time she shifted in the bed, he tensed.

“I’m cold,” she murmured, cuddling closer to him. The heat of her body scorched his bare skin. In a matter of days, everything changed for him. He wasn’t sure when it happened, but he wished he could go back to the way things were. Uncomplicated.

He tried to get away from her but he was trapped in the tight confines of the sleeping area. He held his breath as she ran her palm over his chest, over and over in small circles. Her touch had always been soothing—not so much anymore.

“What’s wrong with you?” she whispered against his neck. His eyes lolled back in his head. Even her fucking breath was sweet.

“Nothing. Go to sleep, Eva.”

“You’re acting weird, North. Is this because of Wade?”

He decided the cowboy was a safer topic than his changing feelings for her. “I don’t trust him.”

“Why not?”

“Just don’t is all.” He rolled to his side and away from her. It didn’t feel right going to sleep on a sour note, but he couldn’t have this discussion now. Mrs. Ford was the one to teach him and Colton not to speak out of passion. It was always best to confront a person with a level head, after cooling off and replaying the events over in your head. He usually didn’t take the advice, but tonight felt like a good time to start.

“Will you two quiet down,” said Colton.

Eva pressed her body against his back. Why had he taken off his shirt? He needed layers between them—many, many layers.

“I know what I’m doing,” she said in a whisper. “You don’t have to worry about me.”

“I’d worry less if you spent more time with Bessie and Ruby than that drifter.”

“He’s not a drifter.”

“Why you defending him?” he asked. “You act like you’re already an item.”

She kissed his shoulder. “I just want you to be happy for me, North.”

“It doesn’t matter what I think.”

“It does. You’re the one who taught me how to rope a calf, and even though it took me weeks to learn, you never got impatient. You protected me when Jameson’s dogs got loose.” She ran her hand delicately down his arm, her fingers lingering over the raised scars on his forearm. “You bought me a corsage when no boy asked me to prom. Remember when the three of us danced in the rain that night? My dress was covered in mud.”

“I remember.”

“Well those are just examples of why I love you so much. It doesn’t feel right doing anything without your blessing.”

He wasn’t sure he could ever give her what she wanted.

The Book that Changed my life with Eileen Griffin

book_of_imagination_by_vanilladragon666-d30tcqmSo in perfect timing for the festive holidays  I have Eileen vising to tell us all about the book that has changed her life:

Thank you Morgan for hosting me on your blog today.

You’re very welcome…

I grew up in a house full of books with a dad who worked in the publishing industry. To ask for a single book that changed my life or was the most impactful is a difficult thing for me to do since I have so many titles that I love and cherish as “favorites”. However, one book that I instantly loved and go back to re-read because I absolutely resonate with its message is Seventeen Ways to Eat a Mango by Joshua Kadison. The book is written in journal format and is about a young botanist who is sent to a remote tropical island because his company wants to exploit it in order to strip it of its mangos and install a mango cannery. Even though J (the journal’s owner) has every intention of following through with his company’s plans of collecting the necessary data and samples and returning home to collect his paycheck, he instead meets the island sage, named Katchumo, and all his well-thought out plans fall by the wayside. During J’s stay on the island, Katchumo helps him see the beauty that he’d never really noticed before but was always present in his life and forces him to question everything from his association with the canning company to his perception of the world around him by teaching him the seventeen ways to eat a mango.

GetAttachment.aspxI love this book and keep it on my bookshelf of “special books” because I absolutely adore the lessons Joshua Kadison dispenses to his readers. A singer/song-writer himself, the book reads more like poetry than it does prose and really forces the reader to look past what the actual story is to more of “how can I integrate these lessons into my own life”. Katchumo teaches J to eat a mango like a child, to eat it while singing, and to eat it by giving it away. However, my favorite lesson is to eat a mango in your own way – without anyone telling you how to eat it, because only then can you truly enjoy it. Sadly this book is out of print and you can’t find it in bookstores, but if you happen to stumble across it I whole-heartedly recommend it. It’s one of my absolute favorites J

I’m not sure that’s entirely fair. I now want to read this book and can’t order it straight away. I’ll just have to resign myself to searching in second hand book shops – luckily that’s my idea of fun.

And talking of fun Eileen’s new book sounds rather delicious!

Dinner For Two Md

Sonia Davenport has dreams of coordinating and planning special events. When she’s given the opportunity to plan a dinner for her boss and his shareholders, she jumps at the chance to make everything perfect. Helping her plan the special night is the head chef of the restaurant, Tony Mancinni, who is not only charming but goes out of his way to make Sonia feel special during the entire planning process.

The dinner party almost turns disastrous when an employee mixes up the orders and sets out the wrong food. In a mad rush to save the dinner, Sonia and Tony realize their attraction to each other when things heat up in the kitchen. However, Tony has to convince Sonia that he wants more than just an extra set of hands in his restaurant – he wants her to stay the night so he can convince her to stay for good.

Tony gently rubbed his finger along her bottom lip. “I had hoped everything would be perfect tonight because I wanted to impress you. When you came in for brunch that first Sunday and laid out your plans, not only were you beautiful, but you had a detailed description of what you wanted. On the catering side of things, you have no idea how attractive that is. Then, when you came in for your tasting, I didn’t think I was going to make it through the afternoon without asking you out. But I have a strict rule: Don’t date the clients until after the function is over. So I waited. Do you have any idea how hard it was to wait?”

Sonia shook her head slightly, then let her lips part. Instead of replying to him, she slid her tongue out to meet his finger, gently caressing the tip. He hissed in a breath, his eyes fixated on her tongue and lips. Feeling emboldened by his words, she leaned closer and drew his finger deeper inside her mouth, wrapping her lips around it as she laved it with her tongue.

“Sonia,” he whispered. “You’re so beautiful. But I didn’t ask you up here for this.”

She leaned back, his finger sliding out of her mouth. All the nerves and doubts she’d felt earlier were replaced by a heat that was coursing through her. She’d felt it all night in the kitchen with him and it was stronger now that she knew he wanted her as badly as she wanted him.

“I’m glad you asked me up here, Tony. But if we’re being honest with each other, I think dinner can wait. You see, I’ve lost my appetite. For food, that is.”

Now this one you can get hold of straight away!!!

The Book That Changed My Life….

book_love_3264x2448I love having guests on my blog, partly because I keep telling my son it’s good to share and it helps to know I’ve been practicing what I preach, and also because I love books so always enjoy  reading what other authors have to say and finding out that little bit more about their books. But I did decide it would be nice to have a theme, especially one which allows me to be nosy and ask the questions I want (within polite reason of course). So to link the sharing, the love of books, and the nosy questions I came up with The Book That Changed my life….

There’s been more than one book that’s fundamentally changed my beliefs and what I do day to day, but I’ll tell you about them another time because *drum roll please* my first guest is the super talented Carlene Love Flores with…..

The Book That Changed My Life

I love reading. I especially love that I’m not alone when it comes to that favourite pastime. I’m probably one of a gazillion or so Sherrilyn Kenyon fans and it was one of her books that changed my life.

I’ll never forget walking through the crowded halls of San Diego Comic Con in 2008 and the kind young lady who held a book out in my path saying, “Would you like a book? It’s free.” I took it and dropped it into my swag bag then hurried off to get in line for another panel. Several months later, I pulled that book out and read “Seize the Night”. It was my first romance novel. I was in love and have since read all of Sherrilyn’s works.

I’d always had fantasies in my mind and while they were very sexy and romantic, they were also dark and twisted. When I read “Seize the Night”, I remember a feeling coming over me that I wasn’t alone in imagining those types of heartbreaking scenes. It inspired me to write some of my own stories down which felt amazing. I was able to do it without feeling ashamed of the darker aspect.

Sherrilyn later came to my town for a book signing which I wasn’t missing for anything. That signing was sponsored by what would become my local writing chapter, Washington DC Romance Writers. I joined so that I could meet her. She rocks, by the way. Now I’m a Romance Author, and the rest is history.

sinshaven1mNow for those questions…

Q1. What inspired you to write Sin’s Haven your latest story?

Sin’s Haven is the third book in my Sin Pointe Novel series so in a way, it was inspired by its predecessors. I got so much awesome feedback about a supporting character, Ben, (who is the webmaster for the band the books are about) that I knew he needed his own story. And then one night, an image of a young woman singing him a song in a club popped into my head. But things were wrong. There were no smiles he’s known for and Ben was hurting. I loved him so much that I had to get him from there to his own Happily Ever After.

Q2. What is the most life-changing thing to happen to Ben?

Ben has always been happy to serve as the support for others and stay in the background. The night he goes out to celebrate his birthday and is put in the spotlight, an ensuing catastrophe makes him regret coming out of his safe zone. Except for the angel who comes to his rescue and yes, changes his life forever. She has a way of making him feel like the rock stars he works for.

Q3.What one thing do you hope readers will take away from this story?

What I want is for readers to come away from reading Sin’s Haven with a special place in their hearts for Ben. I hope he inspires people to be themselves and shun stereotypes and assumptions.

Thank you so much, Morgan!

Sin’s Haven Blurb:

When Sin Pointe webmaster, Benjamin Wright, is publicly humiliated on his birthday, he knows he’s never gonna be able to show his face around the guys again. But an angelic hostess who lets him sleep it off at the club seems surprisingly eager to help him out. Is his luck changing or does she just feel sorry for him?

Hazel Temple, bagel mistress by day and club hostess by night, feels horrible for inadvertently playing a part in Ben’s embarrassment and vows to make it up to him—by telling him they had a sizzling hot one night stand. Still recovering from losing her fiancé to suicide, she worries about Ben when he discovers her lie. Is she bound to hurt the men she cares about?

A Sin Pointe camping trip provides Hazel her chance to get Ben’s groove back.

Will her webmaster be the one to rock her world?

A Single Black Rose

When actor Sean O’Reilly receives a flower bouquet containing a single black rose on set, he assumes they’re from his boyfriend Nate. But they aren’t. Flowers keep arriving for him after that, each with a black rose in the arrangement. Soon other things arrive as well, such as photos and a recording of Sean’s voice. As the number of flowers dwindle with each bouquet, Sean begins to worry they’re supposed to be some kind of a countdown … but to what?

Fan Gene Scott worships Sean. He maintains a blog dedicated to the actor and writes out all his fantasies there. He wants Sean to belong to him, and only him, and he’ll do anything to make the actor his own. He can’t accept the fact that Sean has a boyfriend. To Gene, Nate might as well not exist.

Despite increased security and all efforts to keep him safe, Sean vanishes, and Nate feels as if his world has come tumbling down. When the police response is too slow for him, Nate enlists the help of his producer and bodyguard to find Sean. Will he manage to find his lover before Sean disappears forever? Or will Gene finally get what he’s always dreamed of, and make Sean the love of his life, instead?

Note: may contain sexually explicit scenes of a homoerotic nature.

Gritting his teeth, Nate hisses under his breath. He is standing in front of a cop, giving his statement on what has just happened. Not that there’s much to say. His mind keeps replaying that scene when Sean turned to him, his face ashen, and Nate wishes with all his heart that he was the one who had opened the door, the one who found the flowers instead of Sean, sparing him the shock of seeing the seemingly innocuous pink bouquet with its single black rose.

Nate is angry with himself, feeling like a failure even though he knows what happened wasn’t his fault. There was no way he could have predicted that the pervert was going to put the flowers inside their SUV. He runs his fingers through his hair, ends his statement, and turns to go to Sean who is sitting slumped on the pavement with Osborn by his side. Sean is staring ahead of him, his face expressionless, his hands clenched tightly into fists. Osborn is talking to him but Sean seems to not be aware of him, or of anyone else around him for that matter.

“Excuse me, Mr. Matthews.”

A man stops in front of Nate, a reporter, judging by the tape recorder he holds in his hand, and Nate feels his temper rising. This is so not the time for an interview and how in the world did the media get to hear of this so quickly anyway? Fucking reporters.

“Yeah?” Nate asks impatiently.

“Scott, Eugene Scott from The Vancouver Daily.” The man is tall, almost as tall as him, and Nate rarely meets someone who is the same height as him here in Vancouver. “Are these the first flowers Sean got from the stalker?”

“We don’t know if he’s stalking Sean or not.”

“But it’s obvious that he is, right?”

Nate frowns, looking at the reporter more closely, “No, it is not obvious that he, or she, is stalking Sean.”

“Oh, it’s just — but back to my question –”

“No, they’re not,” Nate cuts him short. He really wants to get this over with without being downright rude.

“These are not the first flowers.”

Scott nods. “Any weird thing?” he asks.

“What do you mean?”

“You know, if there’s something strange with the flowers or –”

“They’re just flowers, okay? Look. I’m tired and I really don’t have anything more to say. If you’ll excuse me.” Nate walks past Scott, going toward Sean who is still sitting at the same spot, alone. Nate glances over at Osborn who is now with the police, presumably giving his statements to them.

“Sean,” he says softly as he sits beside Sean on the pavement. He puts his hand on Sean’s knee, stilling it.

“Nate –” There’s a tremor in Sean’s voice.

Nate turns his head toward Sean who is looking even more agitated than before.

“Hey, man.” He puts his arm around Sean’s shoulders, pulling him close, kissing him on the temple. He can feel Sean shaking. “I’ve got you.”

“They found a picture,” Sean says abruptly. “Inside the flowers. The police showed it to me.”

“What picture?” The police didn’t say anything to him about that. Nate’s stomach sinks. Sending flowers is one thing but pictures? Of Sean?

“It’s one of me. Sleeping. Inside the house.” Sean’s voice is bordering on the hysterical now. “Whoever it is must have used a long-lens camera or something. How could they get through the gate, Nate?”

“Ssh, baby.” Nate tries to put as much reassurance as he can in his voice. Someone has to remain calm even though Nate is feeling anything but. He puts both his arms around Sean, can feel him trembling, and holds him even tighter. “Breathe with me, c’mon.”

Sean stills and takes a deep breath. “Can we go home now? Have the police finished with us?”

“Yeah. Yeah, I think we can go home now.” Nate stands up and holds out a hand to pull Sean up. They hold each other tight for a moment longer, both of them unaware of a pair of eyes watching them from a distance.

About the Author:

Iyana lives in Jakarta, a city famous for its traffic jams, a lot of cars and motorcycles, and people selling stuff on the roads. You can spend two hours on the road going to a place you can reach in half an hour in a normal situation. Thanks to the traffic jams, though, Iyana can come up with a lot of stories, mostly shorties, as she prefers to spend the time during her trips writing into her cell phone rather than sleeping.

Another thing Iyana loves is kitties. Right now she has five of them. Their names are Larva, Nyil, Cil, Mermood, and Horus. When she doesn’t write, she plays with them, or they would play with her when she writes.

A Sexy Teaser…

Amazon.com    Amazon.co.uk    Evernight Publishing    Bookstrand   AllRomance

The Moving On… Series is all about stories where one of the characters is trying to get past a previous relationship that was either a bad break up or negative on the whole. They and the reader discover how it is possible to move on with the right person.

Have I got something on my face?” Jamie asked.

Blake smiled a mischievous glint in his eyes “I don’t think I’ve seen you wearing a suit before. It suits you.”

Jamie groaned. “Was that supposed to be a pun?”

Blake laughed. “Good God no.”

“Good,” Jamie said. “Are you intending to watch me undress?”

“Yes, I think you distracted me last time.”

Yesterday Jamie had deliberately distracted Blake, wanting to draw attention away from his body. But that was a whole day before. Just one night, or rather one afternoon with Blake had given him a burgeoning sense of confidence in himself. And more importantly a belief that he could be confident around others, even those he hadn’t known for years.

With deliberate slowness Jamie pulled off his tie and undid the top button of his shirt. He toyed with the next button down. He imagined the small white disc was Blake’s nipple and played with it accordingly. Leisurely he rubbed it back and forth between his fingertips.

From underneath his lashes Jamie looked at Blake, and for the first time he understood the term hungry eyes. Blake’s eyes glowed with an animal intensity, as if all of Blake was transfixed by a glimpse of Jamie’s chest. One by one Jamie undid the rest of the buttons and parted the two sides of his shirt. He followed his instincts and ran his hands over his own body. It felt strange to be touching himself like this. Strange but arousing. Everywhere he touched Blake’s eyes trailed.

“Show me how you like your nipples to be touched.”

Jamie had been beginning to think Blake was being unnaturally quiet. He raised one hand to his mouth, his index finger upright as if silencing Blake. Instead of whispering “shh” he moved his finger an inch away and slid his tongue up its length. When he reached the tip he sucked the digit enthusiastically, desperately hoping Blake’s mind was conjuring up images of him sucking other things.

He wanted to tease Blake mercilessly. To know that he was worthy of Blake’s arousal.

Withdrawing his finger he spread the moisture between finger and thumb then reached down and across for his left nipple. He painted around the nipple and dabbed at the tip. His nipples were sensitive. He needed only a light touch.

Blake’s groan drew his attention. Jamie had momentarily become absorbed in his own pleasure. He’d forgotten he was putting on a show. His audience didn’t seem to mind. Blake was still watching Jamie’s every move as if he truly was memorizing the movements Jamie’s body responded to. One hand was absently rubbing at the bulge in his trousers.

“Now show me how you like your cock to be touched. Last night I didn’t get a chance to learn you. I was too desperate for you.”

Jamie obliged. He stood and undid his belt buckle. He could have just dropped his trousers to the floor, but instead he pulled the length of the belt through his trouser loops before caressing the leather in his hands.

“Have you ever been restrained before?” Blake said eyeing the leather.

“No.” Jamie answered honestly. “But, I think there are probably a lot of things I’ve not done before that I’d like to do with you.”

“Good.” The one word was offered with such certainty it was all Jamie needed to know he’d pleased Blake.

Blake came a step closer and held out his hand. Jamie didn’t hesitate. He dropped the belt onto the waiting palm. Blake stepped back. “I’m still waiting to see you stroke your cock.”

Jamie undid the button on his trousers. He slid down the zipper.

Nothing rushed.

He dipped his fingers into the waistbands of trousers and briefs.

Breathe in, breathe out.

He pushed all the material over his hips. Silence reigned. He gave a shimmy, and his clothes fell. He stood tall, exposed.

The standing still was torture. Blood thrummed in his veins, and he wanted to bounce on his heels. His cock was engorged, but his brain was also working overtime processing the feelings of excitement.

“You like me looking at you.”

He liked it a lot. Standing for someone else’s viewing pleasure was incredibly flattering to the ego, and in this instance Jamie’s ego was connected straight to his cock.

He fisted his very hard length and squeezed. Using his other hand he cupped his sac and rolled his balls. “The trouble is I can’t show you how I like my cock to be sucked, but if you come here I’ll tell you.”

“Tempting, but first I think I’d like to see how you like your arse to be touched.”

Jamie hesitated. Just when he thought he’d made himself as vulnerable as he possibly could Blake challenged him to go that one step further. He pivoted and turned to face his bed. Slowly he lowered the top half of his body in submission. Cool sheets soothed the heat of his face. Settled, he reached behind him and pulled his bottom cheeks apart.

“Beautiful,” Blake said, and Jamie felt it.
